Interest Groups

What is an Interest Group?

An Interest Group is made up of a number of members who help each other learn together.  Members have different levels of knowledge and experience.  They all bring their experience, knowledge, and ideas, and share them with members so that together members can all learn and help others learn.

There is a convenor who has an interest in the topic and will arrange and take care of all of the organisation and facilitation, but essentially the group, a number of members who cooperate together, share their knowledge about a topic which interests them.

Currently we have four Interest Groups:

•    The Android Interest Group
•    The iPad/iPhone Interest Group
•    The Digital Photography Interest Group
•    The Family History Interest Group

The Android and iPad/iPhone Interest Groups currently meet on the 2nd Tuesday, and the Digital Photography and Family History Interest Groups meet on the 4th Wednesday of the month.

Why do people enjoy Interest Groups?

The many different reasons why members enjoy coming along to our Interest Groups include:

•    You don’t need any particular skills or abilities to attend, just an interest in the topic.
•    There are no expectations or pressure – you contribute what you can, if and when you want to do so.
•    You can learn from and help other members.
•    They are demand driven – if you want to know something, you can raise it to be discussed or be a topic for
      the next meeting.
•    The groups are friendly and welcoming, and
•    You can catch up with other members and meet members you haven’t met.  A number of new friendships
have been made at Interest Groups.
