Introduction to iPhones and iPads

Typically 1 x 2 hour session

 

Overview:

A Smart iphone is a mobile phone that performs many of the functions of a computer, typically having a touchscreen interface, Internet access, and an operating system capable of running downloaded apps.  iPhones use the iOS operating system which is developed by Apple.  All iPhones have an Apple-like logo on their case.

An iPad is a wireless touch screen personal computer that is smaller than a laptop but larger than a smartphone.  iPads are built with wireless Internet and a variety of software applications, Web browsers and games.  iPad’s also use the iOS operating system which is developed by Apple and have an Apple-like logo on their case.

 

You will need:

•  To have opened an Apple account - which means you should have an Apple ID and Password, and know what they are.
•  To be able to log into your device.
•  To bring your device to the learning session with its battery fully charged.  You should also bring the charging unit and cable .

Learning Objectives:

The learning session covers these topics:
   •  A general overview of the iOS operating system which makes your iPhone or iPad work.
   •  What all the knobs and buttons and holes in your device are for.
   •  Apps - what they are, where to get them, what they can do, how to arrange them on screen.
   •  Settings - how to set up your device to suit you and your tastes, including security matters and updating your device.
   •  The iTunes and App Store and what you can get and how.
   •  Typing - how to get the keyboard to display and some tricks and tips for using it.
   •  Basic trouble shooting procedures. 
   •  General care, charging and battery maintenance.
